Its construction began in the late 17th century, with the architect Andr\u00e9 Soares playing a crucial role in its development. He was responsible for some of the most important civil and military monuments of that era in the Minho region.<br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0The transformation that gave the chapel its present-day appearance began in 1753 and lasted a decade, during the archbishopric of Jos\u00e9 de Bragan\u00e7a. Andr\u00e9 Soares, a prot\u00e9g\u00e9 of the archbishop, was tasked with designing the new fa\u00e7ade and the grand staircase, creating a theatrical composition characteristic of both the Baroque style and the architect\u2019s work.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also known as the Sanctuary of Falperra, the chapel was designated a national heritage site in 2017, thanks to a joint effort by the municipalities of Guimar\u00e3es and Braga. The Chapel of Santa Marta do Le\u00e3o is named after its proximity to the Fonte do Le\u00e3o, a Baroque fountain still sought after by locals for the purity and freshness of its waters.\u00a0<br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Built in 1917, it is the most recent of the religious structures on Monte da Falperra. Although located within Guimar\u00e3es\u2019 territory, the chapel was a gift from J\u00falio d\u2019Amorim Lima, a philanthropist from Braga. Essa energia fundadora \u00e9 particularmente sentida no alto de Santa Marta das Corti\u00e7as, cuja ocupa\u00e7\u00e3o remonta ao s\u00e9culo V a.C.<br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Esse povoado passou por um processo de romaniza\u00e7\u00e3o e manteve ocupa\u00e7\u00e3o no per\u00edodo do dom\u00ednio Suevo, tendo sido identificada uma estrutura do que ter\u00e1 sido uma Bas\u00edlica Paleocrist\u00e3 (caso \u00fanico no Norte de Portugal) e um poss\u00edvel pal\u00e1cio da mesma \u00e9poca.<br \/>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No topo do monte encontramos hoje a capela de Santa Marta das Corti\u00e7as, uma constru\u00e7\u00e3o que remonta ao s\u00e9culo XVI.
